Important Information

It is important you are aware of what kinds of waste and recycling we are able to accept and what charges you might face.

Certain types of waste must be prepared in a specific manner before we can accept them. You may be denied entry or charged an additional fee for loads which are not properly prepared.

Before you arrive

Take the time to sort your load before you visit us.

Whether you’re in a car, ute, van or towing a trailer, a small amount of preparation can go a long way to making your visit as simple as possible.

Try to prepare your load according to what you will need to access first. Use the information below to help you.

Arriving at Tamala Park

Tamala Park waste management facility is accessed from Marmion Avenue. Please drive carefully around the site, particularly around larger vehicles and in areas with people on foot.

You must always keep to the site speed limit. This will be clearly sign posted.

You must abide by our rules for entry at all times

Recycling and free drop off

The first area you will come to as you enter Tamala Park is the recycling and drop-off centre.

This area is dedicated to items which can be diverted from landfill. By depositing some or all of your items here, you may be able to save money in disposal fees and do your bit for the environment too!

Click here for a full list of items accepted in the recycling and drop-off area

The recycling and drop-off centre operates a ‘one-way’ system with a number of disposal points along the route. Each of these disposal points are listed below in order. Attendants will be available to help guide you to the correct station for your load. If you are unsure of anything or need assistance, please ask.

1. Household Hazardous Waste
For more information about Household Hazardous Waste, click here.
2. Resalable household goods
Items like furniture, kitchenware and sporting equipment which is good enough to reuse – accepting these items is solely at the discretion of the attendant. Some items cannot be resold, by law.
3. Glass bottles and aluminium containers
Please make sure these are clean and empty before your visit.
4. Metal and white goods
Except fridges, freezers and air conditioners, which should be dropped off at station 8.
5. White expanded polystyrene
In solid pieces (no beads), clean and intact with no adhesives or tape.
6. Cardboard
Please flatten before arrival
7. E-waste
For more information on e-waste, click here.
8. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners
All other white goods should be dropped off at station 4.

Weighbridge and transfer station

Anything that cannot be recycled or disposed of at the drop-off point must pass through the weighbridge and will be subject to disposal fees and charges.

Please drive carefully through the weighbridge. Only one vehicle is permitted on the weighbridge at any one time. Please obey the instructions of attendants and signage.

Once you have passed through the weighbridge you will be directed towards the transfer station. This is where non-recyclable and landfill-safe waste can be disposed of.

You must speak to an attendant before unloading. Customers must unload themselves and attendants will not be able to assist you. Liquid waste, swill or semi-liquid waste is not accepted.

Please drive slowly and carefully around the Transfer Station, particularly as other people may be unloading and vehicles may be reversing.

As with the recycling and drop-off area, there are a number of disposal points dedicated to certain types of waste:

Disposal bays 1-6
These bays are for ordinary vehicles disposing of landfill-safe waste
Rubble and large vehicle bay
This is for contaminated mixed building and demolition rubble. If you are in a larger vehicle, such as a light truck, you will also be directed to this bay.
Metals
This is for commercial metal loads
Green clippings, branches and prunings
Green waste of this kind should be unloaded here
Construction and demolition waste under 150mm
This is for smaller materials which can easily be moved with a shovel - things like sand and gravel
Construction and demolition waste over 150mm
This is for anything you would struggle to move with a shovel - things like bricks, pavers and pieces of set concrete
Asbestos
Strict regulations apply to the disposal of asbestos - see our dedicated asbestos guide for information
Timber / wood pallets
You may be able to return your pallets to the supplier
Mattresses
Inner spring only - no foam or memory foam mattresses without springs
Tyres
No bigger than 4 wheel drive tyres

Leaving Tamala Park

After visiting the transfer station, you will again pass over the weighbridge. This will allow us to calculate the total amount of waste you have disposed of on our site and charge you accordingly.

The weighbridge will only accept cash or EFTPOS

Please drive carefully while leaving the site as other vehicles may be merging from either side.
