Do your bit this Global Recycling Day at Tamala Park

Each year day on 18 March, Global Recycling Day serves as a reminder of the importance of recycling in preserving the environment and making more sustainable use of finite materials.

It’s also a good time to check that what you’re putting the correct items into your yellow-lid kerbside recycling bin. Check your local council website or visit recycleright.wa.gov.au for more information

However, doing your bit for recycling in WA doesn’t stop at your yellow bin. There are all sorts of other household items and materials which you can give a second life and keep out of landfill, and you don’t have to travel far either!

The recycling and free drop-off centre at Tamala Park welcomes members of the public seven days a week for disposing the following items:

  1. Household Hazardous Waste
    Tamala Park accepts a range of hazardous household waste These include products like cleaning chemicals, paints, batteries and gas bottles. Proper disposal is essential to prevent harmful chemicals from entering the environment.
  2. Resalable Household Goods
    If you have furniture, kitchenware, or sporting equipment in good condition, these items and many more may be resold at our on-site Reuse Shop. We accept these goods at the discretion of the attendant, but be aware that some items may not be accepted by law.
  3. Glass Bottles and Aluminium Containers
    If you have clean and empty glass bottles or aluminium containers, we accept these for recycling.
  4. Metal and White Goods
    Tamala Park accepts metal goods such as old appliances, though fridges, freezers, and air conditioners should be dropped off at a specific station (Station 8).
  5. White Expanded Polystyrene
    Clean, intact, and solid pieces of white expanded polystyrene (without adhesives or tape) are accepted at Tamala Park.
  6. Cardboard
    Cardboard should be flattened before being dropped off at Tamala Park to make the recycling process more efficient.
  7. E-Waste
    For old electronic devices such as phones, computers, and televisions, Tamala Park provides a safe disposal option. E-waste recycling is crucial to prevent harmful and valuable materials from ending up in landfills.
  8. Fridges, Freezers, and Air Conditioners
    These items must be dropped off at Station 8 at Tamala Park, as they require special handling due to refrigerants.

Other types of waste which cannot be accepted at our recycling and free drop-off centre may accepted for safe disposal at our transfer station, also located at Tamala Park. Disposal fees start at $27.50 for up to 100KG of general waste.
