The Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) is one of Western Australia’s largest waste management authorities assisting its member councils, mainly situated in Perth’s northern corridor. To manage their municipal solid waste for a combined population of about 700,000.

 

The Role, MRC is strategically positioning itself as a sustainable regional local authority that is recognised for leadership, innovation and excellence. This role manages the team responsible for development and production of high quality and timely financial and management reporting to comply with statutory and corporate requirements.

The Salary, $135k to $145k, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant plus workplace agreement benefits that include:

Selection Criteria:

Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications in Accounting/Commerce
  • Eligibility for membership of Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants or Institute of Chartered Accountants

 

Essential requirements:

  • Strong leadership, ability to provide direction and manage staff in order to achieve strategic financial objectives of the MRC
  • Excellent Business management skills including strategic and operational business unit planning
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills, with a proven ability to understand complex financial issues and identify innovative solutions
  • Timely production of high quality financial and management reporting in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and Practices and Legislative requirements under Local Government Act and Regulations
  • Proficient scenario modelling skills for financial planning, cash flow and costing models, strong and well developed ability to analyse complex data and market trends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting procedures and contemporary business applications.
  • Local government experience would be desirable.

 

The Council maintains a strong Wellness Policy with all staff subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
