Trades Assistant / Mechanic

 

The Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) is one of Western Australia’s largest waste management authorities assisting its member councils, mainly situated in Perth’s northern corridor, in managing their municipal solid waste.

 

The Council maintains a strong Wellness Policy with all staff subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

 

This position assists the Councils qualified trades person to ensure that Council's plant and equipment is repaired and/or maintained in accordance with industry best practice, statutory obligations and Council Policy and Procedures to meet operational requirements

 

Hours of work are 76 hours per fortnight, Monday to Friday, base salary range $74k to $76k per annum, plus overtime, allowances and benefits under the employee industrial agreement.

 

Skills and knowledge required:

  • Communication skills, written and verbal to complete routine forms.
  • Basic computer skills including mechanical data entry.
  • Ability to work in a small team environment.
  • An understanding of appropriate work practices including WHS requirements, license provisions, equipment manuals and workplace procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret the knowledge and skills of the mechanical services.
  • Experience working as a trades assistant, mechanic or fabricator.
  • Current Manual Driver’s License (HR desirable)

 

Duties & Responsibilities – Under Mechanical Supervision

  • Carry out repairing of plant and equipment
  • Examination of vehicle and machinery systems
  • Identification and repair of faults in vehicles, machine components and systems
  • Implementation of diagnostics tests and diagnosing defects
  • Identification of repairs required through unfair wear and tear
  • Attend onsite vehicle breakdowns and conduct repairs
  • Gas and electrical welding within skillset.
  • Liaising with relevant personnel for the supply of parts and equipment

 

The successful applicant will be required to undertake medical examinations prior to employment and would undergo a three-month probationary period.
